On CrossFit.com today, there is a video of Carl Paoli (CrossFit San Francisco) teaching Jason Khalipa (CrossFit Santa Clara) how to do a backflip. The interesting part of the video is when both Carl and Jason start discussing the importance of Olympic weightlifting in not only jumping movements, but also martial arts and other sports. The "hip-to-core-to-extremity" power and coordination that is developed and increased with Olympic weightlifting transfers to other sports and sport-specific movements.
